How do I alter off-the-rack pants/skirts that have too big a waist and front panel (abdomen area)?
I've always been told that you should buy pants that fit your hips because its easier to alter the waist. I finally did this and now I have 2 skirts and 2 pairs of pants where the waist is too big and the pooch (abdomen) area is too poochy. How do I bring in the waist and take some give out of the pooch?
You should take off the waist band or facing, then open up all the seams - side and front and back by several inches Take the total amount of fabric you need to reduce by and divide by 4 if you opened four seams, three if you opened three seams. For example, there is one inch too much fabric -- so at each seam sew your new seam 1/4 inch inside the old seam allowance, gradually taping down to the factory seam line.
You'll need to adjust your waistband or facings before re-attaching them
