I'm building a chair in school and I need help with the dimensions and materials...?
So, I'm building a chair similar to this one ( http://www.inhabitat.com/2008/05/21/icff-2008-colorful-felt-flip-chair/) but mines will have arm rests. Also, one of my arm rests will have a cup/mug holder. I printed out a guideline on standard chair dimensions, but I would greatly appreciate if any experienced chair builders or carpenters would give me their input.
Here's what I want in my chair:
a cup/mug holder: How thick should my arm rests be?
a slightly slanted back, so people can relax: what's a good angle?
How thick should my legs be?
Would I have to add extra support? If so, where?
Material wise, I'll most likely be using wood. What is the best type of wood to use, especially for the legs. Are they expensive to buy? My teacher has tons of wood to use but I don't know yet if that's the right kind of material.
If you have any extra opinions or advice to make my chair better, it'll be greatly appreciated!
